I'm a musician, singer, and self-made critic. I enjoy many types of music, but like everyone else, I have my limits. Country music is one of those personal limits, but this is not what today's topic is about.

Today, I want to just say a thing or two about a song that has come to grind my bones and make me want to break every nerve ending in my ears so I don't have to ever hear it again. (DISCLAIMER: If you like this song, that's fine, this is just my opinion -- don't take offense. If you do, I claim no blame.)

Before I reveal this song, I want to mention that I enjoy music that has heart, emotion, and meaning (no, Britney Spears doesn't count). The run-of-the-mill music and/or lyric combinations are very tired, and my lips actually curl downward when I hear such melancholic garbage. Maybe I'm too much of a music-snob, but I like to hear music that has passion, intensity, and movement, no matter how subtle or exaggerated.

The song that I has burdened my ears for so long and fuels my desire for its extinction is "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler. If your'e not sure what song I mean, feel free to search for it on yahoo or rhapsody or itunes. Unfortunately, this ridiculous song hides behind the mask of emotion and passion, but if you listen to it (and I hope it doesn't burn your ears) you might understand that it is a ruse. Her lyrics are just as bubbly with repetition and lyrics that don't really go in any vague direction. Ugh, it's no wonder that her song was a one-hit wonder... or was it a hit at all? Who knows, who cares, the song just plain sucks. When I hear it, I don't necessarily want to barf, but my ears want to.

Thanks for reading!Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-29898698410364209872008-01-14T14:32:00.000-08:002008-01-14T14:46:53.006-08:00So farJanuary, 2008 marks the 8th month since my graduation. It's disappointing, I guess, for those of us who (are naive to) think that once we graduate from college, there will be a job lined up for us. That's where I am now. In my 8-month endeavor for a full-time ministry position, I've concluded that ministry positions are no different than a non-ministry position anywhere else when it comes to trying to get one: you put out your resume', you polish your cover letter, and make phone calls and sometimes do interviews.

I didn't expect for some ministry position to be handed to me like a reward for finishing school. As you may know, most paid ministry positions require graduate school or even doctorate work. So, I knew when I got my undergraduate, churches wouldn't be calling me up to snag me up before another church did.

I think I've just come to the realization that I should just let go of "trying to get a job at a church". My vocational goal now is to trust God to provide me with a place of ministry that I can be fruitful in. The truth is that He's done that since October 2006 when I started playing with Riverside Church in River Ridge. It's been fulfilling, especially in these last couple of months to be able to lead worship there.

The problem lies in supporting my family. Still, God has provided a place to stay, a place for full-time employment, and loving family/friends to support us. There's no room for complaint, and I know God will move us in the right direction -- spiritually, mentally, and physically.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-5746669037304297292007-11-09T08:08:00.000-08:002007-11-09T08:16:47.328-08:00Would You Eat It?A curious question came up in the office today (Some of you might be asking yourself, "Office?" Yes, I work in an office at Industrial Products for the past 2 1/2 years). The question was "what could you eat on for the rest of your life if you had to?" A few of the items thrown in the mix were soup/raman noodles, red beans & rice (yes, that counts as one), and t-bone steak. As interesting as these items are, I'd like to throw it out there for the 10 people that read this to comment with their own favorites.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-36730704575266798042007-11-04T14:16:00.001-08:002007-11-05T13:37:11.299-08:00releasing the hateWow, it's been a super long time since my last post here, but I've had plenty of notes put into my daughter's blog .

Anyway, so something has changed, aside from all of the everyday changes that have occurred since our trip to Boston. I've never been a fan of baseball, and still really am not. However, Jessica and I's tour of Fenway Park changed the way we thought about the Boston Red Sox. We decided to start keeping up with them almost before the regular season ended, hearing that they tied with the Indians as having the best record in the AL (maybe in the MLB). So naturally, we got caught up in the race for the AL title. Just like in 2004, they were down 3 games in the ALCS, but won 4 in a row. Also, just like in 2004, they swept the opposing team in the World Series to capture their 2nd title in 4 years. Pretty sweet huh? But I digress to the real reason for this post.

Since I started going to college at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, I began which grew into an eventual hate for LSU. I couldn't stand the fact that they were getting so much money (to recruit for their football team, etc) and UL wasn't! I also hated that there were so many people from Lafayette that supported LSU that didn't support UL.

Anyway, I'm over that now. In 2000, with the name change from USL, UL became a state school, allowing more money to flow from the good 'ol boys in Baton Rouge. It was naive to think that UL was the only school that got screwed over by the government, and I'm certain that every state has their own UL. So, I've moved on, and can let go of the hate I held on to for little-to-no reason. I still love my Cajuns, but I won't begrudge LSU for winning the National Championship, given they play well enough. They've been upgraded in my opinion to good standing, but don't look for any bumper stickers, t-shirts, banners or the like on my person.

So, here's to you, LSU. Good job beating your old coach in their own town.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-79951588378225987862007-07-05T19:47:00.000-07:002007-07-05T19:53:53.640-07:00new blogSo that everyone can check what's going on with us and Julianne, you can go there by clicking here. The degree has been issued, and the dance has been finished. I'm officially a college graduate! Woo-hoo! No more teachers, no more books, no more tuition! I'm sure the rhyme is different, but this is my song :)

Now that I'm officially done with school (at least, in my limited view of the future), I'm working full-time (insert sound from Debbie Downer of SNL). It's nice to not have school work to do, especially on the weekend, so I'm not complaining. I guess there's something every graduate feels: "I have to live like everybody else now" kinda thing.

It's ok though. I know that things are never permanent, especially in light of becoming parents and all the things that happen with that (can't wait!). Other than that, I'm on the prowl for a full-time ministry position in worship. I've had a few email and phone leads, but nothing too solid yet. I am hopeful, and I know that God will point me in the right direction. I think I shake from excitement as I sit here typing, but I try not to let it hit me too hard... yet. I've still got so many projects due in this month, including my 20-page senior paper that's due tomorrow.
I keep hearing the question asked of me, "So what are you gonna do now?" It's one of the questions I cannot answer, simply because I really don't know. What I do know is what I would like to do: lead worship full-time at a church. I've been exploring my options, but none have sprouted yet. I do not despair for the hope that I have in Christ is solid that He will take care of his servants. I'm listening and waiting for the words, "Go here." So, for now, I'm still running the race, and I can picture myself breaking the tape at the finish line. Chariots of Fire? Anyone? Bueller?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jUj_uqSpkvI/RhQLlnTnsOI/AAAAAAAAAAM/iDjZWb1XxaU/s400/race.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5049673823023509730" />Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-19809033247709482402007-01-15T07:15:00.000-08:002007-01-15T09:53:46.000-08:00Saint-sational!For those of you who have not felt the impact of the Saints' first-ever, history-making appearance in the NFC Championship, let me fill you in. The last time they won a playoff game was in 2000, against the returning Super Bowl champs, St. Louis Rams, in the dome. Before that, I don't even think they made the playoffs since 1991, much less won the division. This year, they go 10-6, under a new coach, a new quarterback, and an offensive arsenal, much like the team of 2000. Providence, you say?

Friday was a good day. I finished up my class time at the workshop a day early, so I had that day to do some school work and goof around if I wanted to. I take a test, then catch a few minutes of video games. When Jessica gets home, she brought a surprise. She said it was a "card that she made all by herself." I opened it up, and just as she said, made all by herself -- only it had an extra surprise in it -- 2 SAINTS PLAYOFF TICKETS!!! Amazing, right? Yeah, I thought so too. So after thanking her repeatedly, we left for the game on Saturday around 3pm. yes, 3pm... the game started at 7pm. We got a good parking spot, and were only a block away from the Superdome (to those of you who have tried parking there, you know how hard that is). The doors opened at 4:30, but we had time to hang out with the other fans, while booing the very few Eagles fans, and listening to the Steve Miller Band play live. I've already said a lot, so I'll sum up the game: VERY LOUD! I heard that the decibal rating for a plane flying by is 1.12. The stadium that night: 1.07 = deafening. It was a rollercoaster game that had many highlights and only a few lowlights, but it was a rockin good time. So, onto Chicago where we look to go to our first ever Super Bowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (even Terry Bradshaw is cheering them on)

Speaking of providence, it's game day and we went out to a few sports to get a Saints t-Shirt (only one I had is long-sleeve). There were no shirts anywhere! So, we settled on a hat, and a black t-shirt, just so I'd least have the right colors on. When we went to check out, there was a bundled up shirt on a hanger, apparently left by a customer who'd changed their mind about the shirt. We pick it up curiously to find that it's a white Saints t-shirt! We both looked at each other in amazement, and checked it for wardrobe malfunction, and then bought it! I was blown away... as if it had been left just for me :)Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-439111085986148712007-01-04T14:52:00.000-08:002007-01-04T14:54:05.455-08:00gotta check itI have re-launched my website. It took roughly 3 weeks to get over my bell's palsy. Like I said, it wasn't painful, just annoying. It finally went away, and it almost came at a surprise because it was so gradual. So, by the time I arrived in Lafayette for Christmas, it was totally gone and no one could see any evidence whatsoever.

In other news, I have roughly 5 more months of school until graduation. I'm extremely stoked, and I'm looking forward to starting my post-school worship ministry experiences.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-34482069566268647232006-11-20T12:58:00.000-08:002006-11-20T13:30:44.204-08:00Bell's Palsy Anyone? Well, I started to feel a little numbness in my tongue on Thursday, but I attributed that to burning my tongue the few days before. That night, it felt like my right eye was about to fall out of my face b/c my eye lids were spread further apart than usual. I thought my eyes were just dry or whatever, so I went to bed. Next morning, I get up to find that I'm having a hard time eating my cereal or smiling. Jessica noticed that I wasn't smiling all the way, and was worried that it was something serious. I shrugged it off and assured her that it was nothing.
Around lunch time, at work, I felt the dryness in my right eye getting worse and i couldn't sniff in my right nostril. So, the guys at work finally pushed me to go to the doctor. I went in, and Jessica's boss had me get pushed ahead of everything else, fearing the worst. I was then diagnosed with Bell's Palsy.
In case you don't know what that is (and I didn't at first), I was told that it's a virus that you can just get from the air, and not from anyone b/c it's not contagious. It renders one side of your face paralyzed and/or numb. Among my inconveniences are, I cannot: blink with my right eye, open my mouth much on my right side, raise my right eye brow, or suck out of a straw. I also have to wear an eye patch during my sleep so my eye doesn't dry out when I sleep.
They have me on steroids and antibiotics. They anticipate that it will just go away in as short as a week or as long as a few months.
Funny story, and I'll be done: I was playing in church Sunday morning, and we were playing this slow, sweet acoustic guitar song thanking God for the things He's done for us. So, my right eye started to well-up and tears streamed down my face. Not because I was sad or it touched me or whatever, but because my eye was so dry it couldn't take it. As soon as the song was over, I ventured off-stage out of the service, where I got the saddest looks asking, "Are you ok?" I couldn't help but laugh and assure everyone I was fine.
So, that's been my last few days. Feel sorry for me yet? Don't, I'll get over it :) I appreciate any prayers though!Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-89237234972432733622006-11-16T11:02:00.000-08:002006-11-16T11:32:40.637-08:00Guitar Hero II
You may have read my previous post on the original Guitar Hero game. It's by far my favorite game to date (not to go out with, just up to now :-p ). Well, guess what... it's time for Guitar Hero II! It's got all kinds of new tunes, and with added features. You can play multiplayer like before, but now you can play bass along side or battle it out for points, and you can pick whatever level you're on. It's also got some other cool stuff that you can unlock, like a fish guitar, a viking-head guitar, an custom guitar in the shape of the US, and characters too like the grim reaper. Some of the cool songs it has are: "Sweet Child O'Mine" G'N'R, "Mother" Danzig; "Heart-shaped Box" Nirvana; "Carry On My Wayward Son" Kansas, "Them Bones" Alice in Chains; and "Free Bird" Lynyrd Skynyrd. Those are a few of my faves. Anyway, check it out if you have a PS2!Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1157729612643411542006-09-08T07:49:00.000-07:002006-11-16T09:59:31.027-08:00random entertainmentWell, as you know, I don't blog much. It's mesmerizing! It's definitely the funest game I've played in a REALLY long time. If you haven't heard me talking about it, I'm addicted to the game GUITAR HERO! If you're not a rock fan, then save yourself from reading the rest of this.

It actually comes with its own guitar... even though it looks and feels like something Parker Brothers or Playskool would put on the market. There's just 5 buttons, and you follow along the notes that it tells you to play, which are, of course, color-coded. It's so basic, but yet so fun! Best part about it is that you can play it if you've never picked up a guitar or if you've been playing for 20 years!

It's got modern and classic hits, and even some new original stuff that you can unlock. Check out the screen shots! Maybe, if you're lucky, you can sample it at Best Buy. I know the one in Metairie has it as a demo that's been up for like 3 months. It's just that popular! It has about 30 songs on it, getting a little harder as you unlock more. There are 4 different levels, and believe me, it's not as easy at it looks. I've had the game since June, and I'm just not starting to get through the 4th level.

Like I said, very fun and addicting. I've already hooked 2 guys from work, 2 of my friends, and even got my wife, Jessica, on it! Don't knock it til you try it! Yes, that's right, my 20's have left me, and the 30's have taken me. I think I actually counted the minutes until the end of my most coherent decade.

Coming into the weekend, I was told that I would have a surprise waiting for me... Jessica was suppose to take me to a nice restaurant after I had gone to see X-Men 3 (save that for another post). So, after the movie, Jessica picks me up from the movie. She stops about 30 seconds later and says, "here, put on this blindfold." I'm thinking that she just doesn't want me to see where we're going, so I put it on. About an hour later, we arrive at our destination. I felt us going on and off the interstate, so my theory that we were going to Lafayette didn't make sense, nor of going to New Orleans. So, maybe Mississippi? Anyway, so we get out, and she takes me into the place (still with blindfold on). I could hear the theme to Pirates of the Carribean playing, and suddenly I felt warm air hitting me. She stops me, and I'm thinking we're at some kind of exhibit or display for Pirates of the Carribean. Well, not so much. The hankerchief comes off, and after being blinded by the light of the sun, I hear and realize, much to my surprise, 25 of my friends and family are there to say "SURPRISE!!" I was very surprised indeed, and we had a whole lot of fun. Jessica really went all out with the theme, which was "pirates". There were candles floating in the pool, everybody had bandanas, pirate caps and/or eye patches on. We all said "yaaarrrr" a bunch. Jessica even made a list of pirates' favorite things (i.e. What's a pirate's favorite place to eat? Aaarrrrrby's). I had many presents and I got to play with my niece and nephew. Not to mention I'm stocked on food for the next 2 - 3 weeks.

All in all, I say goodbye to my twenties in style, and hello to my thirties forever (because you can forget about moving onto forties, fifties or beyond ;) ).Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1149605706537754752006-06-06T06:00:00.000-07:002006-11-16T09:59:30.697-08:00tidbitsFor those of you, like myself, who have grown up in any traditional-type church, you're probably well-aware of the hymn factor involved in worship services. Once I got to college, I wanted nothing to do with any hymn being sung at any given time. A couple years back, God started working on my heart for a balance in worship. So, fast forward to now... I actually like a hymn. I know, I have amazed even myself. The hymn is "Be Thou My Vision".

-------

I led worship for the youth at a community church in Kenner last night. It was great fun, and I think the kids enjoyed it too. There was a few moments where I could tell they would rather be somewhere else, but there was one, just one girl, arm slightly raised, eyes closed, worshipping Christ. It hit me and made it all worth it. I couldn't stop smiling after that. I thought, "This is why God has me here, leading His people in worship."

-------

In other news, I just bought a Playstation 2 for $50!! To you other gamers, this may be old hat for you, but up until now I have had the Nintendo GameCube. It's treated me well, but PS2 has offered me something that no other system has yet -- a band. Yeah, if you're into gaming at all, you might have heard of Guitar Hero. I tried it out at BestBuy and had a blast! There are over 70 songs! You play on this (what looks like a kid's version of a) guitar, with 6 colored buttons and a "pick". You just follow the fret board and tells you exactly when to play each string. There's already drums, bass, and a singer doing everything else. Good times, neat fun.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1147729481837718602006-05-15T14:34:00.000-07:002006-11-16T09:59:30.601-08:00Finally!Alright, so I haven't posted in a while.... ok, a good while, but I've been freakin busy! So many papers, so many reports, so many finals! I barely got everything in on time! But, I did it, praise be to God. No finals grades yet... but don't worry, you'll be posted.

On another note, pun intended, I'm gonna start gettin down on recording some songs for MySpace. If you're not yet assimilated into the phenomena called MySpace, then check out my musical profile here. I have one song up already, and I can't promise they'll be original, but it's done acoustic-style. When I get brave enough to actually record something original that I haven't thrown away, I'll be sure to post them. So, in the meantime, for your entertaining pleasure, please visit the sites/band recommendation along the right margin. Thank you and goodnight.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1144334882537815082006-04-06T07:02:00.000-07:002006-11-16T09:59:30.502-08:00he got it rightThere's this song on this CD I borrowed from my pastor, with mostly hymns that have been redone in contemporary music. It's called "Depths of Mercy" by Red Moutain Church. There are 2 songs on it, however, that have been written by modern songwriters (one of those, written by Mo Leverett, President of Desire St. Ministries in New Orleans/Destin, FL). One of the two modern tunes is called "Wedding Dress" by Derek Webb. The lyrics of the chorus go like this:

"I am a whore, I do confess, I put you on just like a wedding dress, and I run down the aisle, I run down the aisle / I'm a prodigal with no way home, I put you on just like a ring of gold, and I run down the aisle, I run down the aisle to You"

Powerful, isn't it? There may be some of you that are saying, "Is this a Christian song? If it is, I can't believe they'd use 'whore' in a Christian song!" Well, guess what, he just did, and I think it's a great song. When I heard it, I thought, "Now this guy has got it right!" How many Christian songs, or any other songs for that matter, have that powerful a message in that type of fashion? If you do hear something this strong, it's usually anti-religion/God. Besides that, he used very vivid imagery in his point that really grabs your attention, and you know exactly what he's talking about. There's no sugar-coated, happy-go-lucky, everything's alright words here. He simply paints a picture of his expression to God. It's truly beautiful, and I aspire to write music like that.

Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1142978505654842482006-03-21T13:53:00.000-08:002006-11-16T09:59:30.401-08:00band gameHey, I thought since I haven't posted in a while, and found this on myspace, that it'd be worth putting on here. See if you can guess all of the band names in this picture --- the image is kind of small. Might be better for you download it before you guess. If you feel like commenting, just name 1 or 2. Thanks! I'll start you off with 2 of the easy ones: The Eagles and Gorillaz. Have fun!

Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1138983242030099622006-02-03T07:07:00.000-08:002006-11-16T09:59:30.310-08:00typingPeople sleep in all kinds of ways. I'm accustomed to using 2 pillows, otherwise my neck has a severe pain in the morning. Recently, I've noticed that my bottom pillow tends to move steadily toward the side of the bed. I have to re-adjust it every night before I go to sleep. It may be all in my head, but the pillow seems to be going further and further off the bed.

It got me thinking that maybe my obsession with typing has gone too far. When I was in high school, I took typing my junior and senior year. When Jessica and I were dating, and just hanging out with friends or whatever, she would feel my typing words (of course, without a keyboard) on her arm or shoulder. She finally asked me about it, and I had no idea that I was even doing it! I don't do that as much, mainly because I get my typing quota from work or email or blogging. Now, apparently that my fingers are getting their quota, is my head typing while I sleep?

For those of you who have not had the pleasure of journaling or doing research papers without a keyboard, we use to have to use typewriters. And with typewriters, when you get to an end of a line on a paper, you hit enter, and the whole middle part (called the carriage) moves over to the next line at the left-hand indent. Is my head actually doing this at night?? Have I turned into.... TYPE WRITER HEAD!?

Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1136952490377516992006-01-10T19:34:00.000-08:002006-11-16T09:59:30.230-08:00Movie Review: Glory Road
If you're like me, you haven't seen the previews, and have no clue what this movie is about. So, if that's you, then check it out the preview. If it's not, then you're probably wondering how I've seen it already. Well, let me tell you! Jessica heard on the radio about free movie passes, and we never miss our chance at those, so she picked them up. Radio Disney was giving them away, and it was a very packed house. We got there an hour early and there were still about 50 people in front of us.

Going into this movie, I assumed that it wasn't going to be much of anything. When I think of a Disney movie, I think it's going to be hokey, less than exciting and goofy. It's rated PG, after all -- how good could it be? You might feel the same way, but you'd be wrong about this movie.

The story is basically a 1965 near-historic account of the first black NCAA team to start and go all the way to win the national championship, which they did their first year. The movie shows you a lot about what racism the players went through, and their battle to become champions and prove to the world that black men could play basketball.

This is the part in a review where I talk about some parts of the movie I might be critical about. After conversing with my wife, it seems that there aren't any. I'm not saying this movie is perfect by any means, but it's high quality.

Highlights of the movie include updates of the players at the end. The even more special treat was the interviews with the real players and even Don Haskins himself. That's really what made the movie for me. It was also amazing how well the casting was. John Lucas played the coach and he really did a great job. Even the players' likeness to the original players are quite uncanny. If you do happen to see this movie, listen for anything you might hear about Pat Riley... yes, the NBA coach... he's been around awhile, but he's actually a player in this movie :)

Overall: A+

I would definitely recommend to anyone. Whether you love basketball, sports in general, or any uplifting type of story.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1135781092677882602005-12-28T06:36:00.000-08:002006-11-16T09:59:30.157-08:00down with the nemesisTake that, Arch Nemesis! Earlier in the year, I posted about my arch rival. I think, after all this time, I've finally come to the point of justification by domination. This villain of aggravation has been taunting me my entire span as an employee at my current company. I had come to grips with the fact that it would always outwit me in my goal of taping up boxes and various other shipping items. But, today, that is a thing of the past! I've found a way for it to do my bidding, without back talk or lip of any kind! So, take that Arch Nemesis, your days of glory are done!

Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1134614490245386892005-12-14T18:28:00.000-08:002006-11-16T09:59:30.081-08:00bad ears, badAs some of you may already know, there are lyrics in songs, some very popular, where it is hard to understand a word or two in any given phrase, and can sometimes be miscrewd to be something that it's not. For example:

Red Hot Chili Peppers' song "Scar Tissue", I thought what he was saying was "with the purple shed, it's a lonely view..." Jessica thought it was "with the burning shed, this lonely view...", but it's really "with the birds I'll share this lonely view..." weird huh?

Here are some others that are humorous that I've heard of or have thought myself (*hint: it's funnier if you know the song and can sing along with the wrong words*):

AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds":
wrong: "dirty thieves and the thunder chiefs..."
right: "dirty deeds done dirt cheap..."

Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze"
wrong: "excuse me while I kiss this guy"
right: "excuse me while I kiss the sky"

John Mellencamp's "Authority Song"
wrong: "I frighten Dorothy, and Dorothy always wins"
right: "I fight authority, authority always wins"

Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water"
wrong: "Slow talkin' Walter, the fire engine guy"
right: "Smoke on the water, the fire in the sky"

The Police's "Message In A Bottle"
wrong: "I'll send an SOS to a squirrel"
right: "I'll send an SOS to the world"

You can find some more here.

What are some that you've heard?Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1132931169620128892005-11-25T06:59:00.000-08:002006-11-16T09:59:29.977-08:00I've done it!Fellas, I have done it! I have created the ultimate way to travel back in time! How did I do this, you mask ask! Well, all you have to do is grow your hair really long and let your beard get shaggy for as long as you can stand it over a period of a few years. After that, you can instantaneously make yourself look 10 years younger! Just look at what it's done for me!

For those of you who didn't know me back then, the 2nd picture is what I looked like at 19.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7120758.post-1131823304702572102005-11-12T10:54:00.000-08:002006-11-16T09:59:29.901-08:00loyaltyI guess I consider myself to be critical of music. I know what aspects of music I enjoy, and I don't listen to the other crap (sucky slide steel guitar -- you can have that). On the most basic of scales, that's how I measure what I like. Being a musician, it's musically-healthy to be critical of what you hear.

So, with that out of the way, I can say that I love music. If I could, I would have the mp3 player constantly hearing stuff, if not, then playing it. I like many kinds of genres, rock (goth, classic, metal, alternative), selective hip hop, classical, new age (world), blues (classic and modern), and selective jazz... just to name a few. My bias probably stays in the rock field, however.

There is the issue of loyalty. Some people like the sound of a few bands, and buy their albums, no matter what it sounds like. While some others like songs that come on the radio and have no idea who they are, or what else they sing. Not me. When I hear a song that I like, great. That by no means that I become loyal to that band. I might go to B&N or Yahoo Music to check out the album. But that's it. I also might like a band/musician and never buy any of their stuff, like Black Eyed Peas, Dave Matthews Band, Busta Rhymes, or any one-hit wonder. I may like one or two of their songs, but for the most part, I enjoy their artistic talent.

I will state, however, that there are bands that really have some great stuff over the years that have more good stuff than not: Sixpence None the Richer, Sarah McLachlan, and Disturbed. There are more, but I'll save that for later.Kenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06865475471645344217noreply@blogger.com3
